Frost, et al. awarded Feb. 10, 1925, ex-Doc Kraft collection(The Pocahontas lamp was introduced by the Shanklin Manufacturing Co. in the early to mid 1920s as a competitor to Universal Lamp Company’s Arrow carbide lamp.  An ad from the 1925 Logan-Gregg Hardware Co. catalog shows the lamp as a Guy’s Dropper product and specifically lists it as the Pocahontas lamp.  It was available as either polished brass (No.18) or nickel-plated brass (No. 180).  It was described as made of heavy gauge sheet brass throughout, equipped with Guy’s patented water dropper, a 2 1/2 in. reflector attached with a wing nut and a round wire hook.  The brass versions were available for $12 per dozen and the nickel plated version at $15 per dozen.  Patent No. 1,525,579 filed on Mar. 21, 1924 and awarded on Feb. 10, 1925 to George W. Frost and Ernest O. Zacharias of Springfield, IL and assigned to the Shanklin Manufacturing Company displays the main characteristics of the Pocahontas lamp.
